CLAYTON, Mo. -- Elections officials in St. Louis County say they won’t certify results of a close Missouri House Democratic primary where some voters got the wrong ballots.
House members Stacey Newman and Susan Carlson ran against each other in the Aug. 7 primary after redistricting put them both in the new 87th District. Unofficial results showed Newman winning the nomination by one vote.
But the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners says 102 voters in the 87th District were given ballots for a different district. Officials are investigating how that happened.
County elections director Rita Heard Days said Tuesday the board will ask a circuit court judge to decide the next step. She says the board’s attorneys are also discussing potential remedies with the two candidates.
