AURORA, Ill. (AP) -- Three Illinois siblings are going to prison for neglecting their elderly mother so badly that one of the woman's legs had to be amputated because of gangrene.
The Kane County state's attorney's office says Connie Roberson, 51, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison. Alan Roberson, 55, was sentenced to four years and Kevin Roberson,43, to three years. All pleaded guilty.
Authorities say the siblings failed to properly care for their mother after she was released from the hospital in June 2011 for an unrelated illness.
Paramedics in October discovered the woman, now 78, sitting in her own feces, with open sores and a blackened right leg after being called to the home she shared with her children.
Help was sought only after insects were found in the woman's leg.
