Savard: Rams smart to drop London games in 2013, 2014

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- The Rams have made a smart decision in bypassing games in London in 2013 and 2014. But I’ll stop before I give them too much credit. It was a pragmatic decision that had to be made at this time.

There’s no way the Rams can ask for public support to renovate the Edward Jones Dome at a time when they’re taking home games away from a fan base that finally sees light at the end of the tunnel after the Rams have won just 15 games in five seasons.

Arbitrators will decide in the next six months how the Dome process moves forward but if the CVC and the Rams reach some sort of agreement there’s little doubt some taxpayer money will be requested in the renovations. The Rams don’t need to alienate the fan base at this time. The best thing they can do is start winning games. 15-65 is a tough sell. The faster Jeff Fisher can right the ship the better chances the Rams have of achieving top-tier status with the Dome or a brand new stadium.

And don’t read too much into the first pre-season game result. It does reinforce the reality that the Rams aren’t Super Bowl contenders. But Fisher has a plan for pre-season and is sticking to it. He game planned very little for the opener while the Colts did a lot more game planning. The Rams will be better than they showed at Indy.
