ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- County officials say Rev. Larry Rice's new homeless camp in north St. Louis was taken down Saturday afternoon, just hours after the first tent was raised.
Rice said "Integrity Village," located at 3950 Lada Avenue, would abide by county building codes that allow up to 50 tents to be placed on the property for up to 90 days.
But Rice did not have the proper permits and was in violation of residential zoning, according to county officials. Health inspectors also reportedly deemed the camp unsafe and unsanitary.
Six people at the site were put into temporary housing Saturday evening.
Rice said he knew the camp would be controversial, but will continue to advocate for the homeless.
