Heat-death total climbs to 26 in St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS—Two more heat deaths have been confirmed in the St. Louis area, bringing the total from the summer heat wave to 26.

The deaths announced Thursday included 76-year-old Carl Topp and 60-year-old Jean Delameter.

Topp was found July 10 in his home in the 700 block of Military Road in Lemay. Officials said he had a window air conditioner that had not been turned on. He had last been seen alive July 5, when the high temperature reached 105 degrees.

Delameter was found Tuesday in her trailer home in the 5100 block of Collinsville Road in Fairmont City. Investigators believed she had been dead at least two days.

According to officials, St. Louis city has seen 17 heat-related deaths this summer. Four people in St. Louis County have died due to the heat and two people have died in each of Madison and St. Clair counties. St. Charles County has reported one death.

All 26 deaths in the area have occurred since June 28.
