ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police shot a suspected burglar in St. Louis’ Dutchtown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Police said officers were responding to a report of burglars at a home in the 3900 block of South Compton Avenue when they spotted a suspect jump through a first-floor window and run into an alley across the street.
An officer, who drew his gun, chased the suspect and caught up to him. Police said the suspect turned around and tried to grab the officer’s gun. That’s when the officer fired, striking the suspect in the shoulder.
The suspect, 21, was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.
The 28-year-old officer has been with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for nearly two years.
The latest shooting marks the 14th that’s involved an officer in St. Louis this year.
