ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOV) – Pawn shops and gold buyers in Arnold are now required to hold the jewelry they buy for at least 15 days.
Gold buyers had been required to only hold jewelry for two days before melting it. The idea is to give police more time to find and recover stolen jewelry, but some city leaders told News 4 they do not think 15 days is long enough.
“A lot of times people go on vacation and they don’t even realize they have been stolen from and they don’t realize goods are missing and by that time with only 15 days it’s already been melted down,” Arnold Councilwoman Doris Borgelt said.
The new ordinance also requires stores to make a copy of the seller’s driver’s license and keep it on file for at least a year.
