BELLEVILLE, Il. (KMOV) – The mayor of Belleville is asking the city council to approve a task force to look at a crime-free housing program.
The program would require landlords to go through special training and make criminal activity a lease agreement violation. Some landlords were against the idea and the fees they would have to pay into the program.
“This helps the landlords if it is done right to deal with people who are crime-involved and this also helps the neighborhood say we are not going to tolerate individuals who continue to be involved in criminal activity,” Mayor Mark Eckert said.
The task force would be made up of landlords and aldermen with input from the police department.
