(BaseballStL) -- An awkward turn out of the batter's box in the top of the ninth caused Lance Berkman's right knee to catch, causing the Card's slugger to wince and walk down the line to first base.
Berkman was clearly walking gingerly toward first, and then slowly back to the dugout after he was thrown out on the play. Manager Mike Matheny was waiting for him when he got back to the bench for details on what happened.
Berkman did not appear to be limping, but it was obvious something was not right with the knee and he was clearly uncomfortable.
In his post-game comments Matheny said that Berkman would have his knee looked at when the team gets back to St. Louis. Berkman has missed much of the season with knee problems.
This latest concern comes as the Rockies knocked around Cardinals pitchers Thursday night. It was an especially rough night for the bullpen as Colorado piled on for an 8-2 win over the birds.
