EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – Teachers in Edwardsville have authorized a strike after their union could not come to an agreement with the district.
Members of the Edwardsville Education Association voted Wednesday to reject the school district’s last offer and strike if a new collective bargaining agreement is not reached soon.
No official strike date has been set, however.
“We continue to be disappointed and very frustrated that it has come to this,” said Sallie Clark, Co-President of the EEA.
Clark said the strike authorization was passed by an overwhelming number of the 511 union members in a secret ballot vote.
The Edwardsville School Board declared an impasse in negotiations between the two parties on July 26.
The two sides have used a mediator to assist in negotiations for the last seven sessions.
The scheduled start of school is August 15.
