(BaseballStL) -- The Cardinals will place pitcher Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Meanwhile, reliever Mitchell Boggs will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.

Garcia threw 5 1/3 innings against the Brewers on Friday, giving up six runs on two three-run home runs to Aramis Ramirez.

Mozeliak did not say whether Garcia would undergo surgery, or how long he was expected to remain on the DL. The left-hander struggled with pain in the same shoulder through much of 2012.

So far this year, Garcia is 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings pitched.

CBS Sports reports the path may now be set for 21-year-old Michael Wacha to make his major-league debut. Wacha is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA  in 47 2/3 innings.
