(KMOV.com) – An East St. Louis firefighter who was arrested for drug possession in Texas was fired Tuesday.

According to department officials, Khari Sharp- who was arrested in Texas in April in possession of Marijuana and $50,000- was not fired for his pending drug charges.

East St. Louis Fire Chief Jason Blackmon said Sharp was ordered to take a drug test on March 14, and never did so. In Sharp’s union contract, it states a drug test must be taken within an hour of the order being given.

Sharp has been with the department 10 years, and says he plans to appeal the decision.
