(KMOV) – Authorities are offering a reward after a suspect stole powerful explosives from a business in Troy, Missouri Monday night.

A source tells News 4 that the explosives were stolen out of a trailer at a quarry in rural Lincoln County.

A St. Louis area company was contracted to work at the quarry. Some time on Monday evening the thief, or thieves broke in.

The next morning employees noticed the break-in, took inventory and discovered two boxes of explosives were gone.

“There was forced entry at the business,” said Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Ryan McCarrick. “Our main concern right now is getting those items back. It’s a public safety concern, so first and foremost we want those back in our possession and second obviously is to get the people responsible.”

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect removed two cases of explosives from a business near Highway H. The explosives weighed about 100 pounds, according to deputies.

Investigators aren’t saying right now whether anything else was taken during the break-in.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $5,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Detective Sergeant Ryan McCarrick at (636) 528-8546.
