Local Jimmy John's workers walk out, say managers publicly embarrassed them

(KMOV) – Workers at a local Jimmy John’s sandwich shop planned to walk out of their jobs on Wednesday following what they said were several instances of being mistreated on the job.

The walk out was scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Soulard Jimmy John’s located at 1631 S. Broadway.

Workers said during the past several months, managers made some employees publicly hold signs saying they were not making sandwiches fast enough or getting food to the drive-thru customers quickly.

According to a release sent by the striking workers, one employee was ordered to hold a sign stating, “I made 3 wrong sandwiches today.” Another worker held a sign saying, “I was more than 13 seconds in the drive thru.”

“Workers are routinely called in to work and then made to go home without pay,” the release stated. “They are disciplined for trivial incidents with the write-ups displayed publicly.”

According to the workers, they will strike for $15 an hour wages.

They said they were inspired by fast-food workers in New York City and Chicago who recently walked off their jobs.

Jimmy John’s did not have any comment.
