6 To receive honorary degrees at Washington U

ST. LOUIS -- The mayor of Newark, N.J., the co-founder of two of the nation’s largest telecommunications companies and an emergency medicine pioneer are among six people who will receive honorary degrees at Washington University’s commencement on May 17.

About 2,800 students will graduate in the ceremony at St. Louis. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is the commencement speaker and will receive an honorary degree.

Also recognized with honorary degrees will be Howard Wood, a 1961 Washington U. grad who co-founded Charter Communications and Cequel III LLC; Dr. Peter Rosen, a leader in the field of emergency medicine; St. Louis civic leader and philanthropist Marilyn Fox; Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club co-founder Martin Mathews; and Juhani Pallasmaa, a Finnish architect, educator and critic.
