EDWARDSVILLE, Illinois (KMOV.com) – A 2-year-old boy was hospitalized Wednesday after he and his twin brother wandered away from their Edwardsville home.

Edwardsville Fire Chief Rick Wells said they got a call about a possible drowning in a pond on the end of Cherokee Trail.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and discovered two twin 2-year-old boys had wondered away from home.

Authorities found the boys a short time later. One of them was transported to the hospital by a life support unit. His condition was unknown.

His brother stayed at the scene to be evaluated.

Firefighters said the pond is located a few hundred yards from the back door of the toddlers’ home.

Authorities said they were not sure how long the two boys were missing.

They were still investigating the incident.
