HOUSTON – Several units were damaged and a firefighter was injured when a two-alarm blaze broke out at a northwest Harris County apartment complex early Thursday.
The fire broke out at the Camden Station Apartments in the 12300 block of Antoine at Waco Falls around 3:15 a.m.
The Little York Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from a two-story building in the apartments and made a fast attack, but had to pull out and go into defensive mode once the roof started collapsing. The 40-foot flames could be seen from blocks away.
Firefighters pulled a second alarm for extra manpower and the Aldine, Cy-Creek and Champions Fire Departments rushed to the scene.
The fire initially started in the laundry room and spread to the one of the buildings.
A main gas meter for the building caught fire and exploded, forcing CenterPoint Energy to shut off the gas and power to most of the residents in the complex.
All residents got out safely, but one firefighter had to be treated for smoke inhalation. She was expected to be OK.
At least eight units were damaged.
