South St. Louis alderman asks police to increase its patrol after rash of break-ins

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A south St. Louis alderman is asking police to step up patrols near the Lindenwood Park neighborhood after a rash of house and vehicle break-ins this week.

"We can't just keep paying attention to the Delmar Loop and bigger touristy areas.  My neighborhood needs police also," Alderman Joe Vaccaro said.  "I believe police should step it up -- they need too.  The more serious we take this the more people will stop doing it and think twice."

Vacarro believes police are downplaying a possible problem after at least seven cars and two homes were broken into late Monday night.

Day or night the thieves have been able to smash car windows and enter houses through the garage raising more fears if the city cuts nearly 80 police officers.  Police tell News 4 break-ins are currently down 17 percent in the city.
