ALTON, Illinois (KMOV) – A Metro-East mother says her 6-year-old son was attacked by a few 16-year-olds outside an Alton apartment complex Tuesday night.
Megan Everage said three teenagers were looking for other older teens to fight in the Alton Acres subdivision around 8 p.m. when her son, J’Shawn Everage, apparently got in their way. The older teenagers threw J’Shawn to the ground, according to Megan Everage.
“I wasn’t even doing anything to them and they just pushed me down,” said J’Shawn, who was playing outside his aunt’s house.
J’Shawn reportedly suffered some scratches.
Everage said police responded to the scene, but did nothing because of the teenagers’ ages.
Police say they’re still sorting through the story and may have difficulty finding the teens involved.
Alton police say they have stepped up patrols in the area and reported crime is down.
But Megan still wants answers.
“If I don’t stop this and resolve this now, this is never going to end,” she said. “People will just walk over on us and I can’t take no for an answer.”
