NEVADA, Missouri -- Authorities have released a 17-year-old southwest Missouri girl who was believed to be nine months’ pregnant when she disappeared but wasn’t pregnant and didn’t have a baby when she was found.
The girl turned up in the Cass County town of Pleasant Hill on Sunday, six days after she was last seen by a roommate in the town of Nevada.
No charges have been filed. Cass County prosecutor Teresa Hensley said through a staff member Monday her office wanted a follow-up investigation. Pleasant Hill police Lt. Norm Conant says authorities are investigating whether a baby is involved and whether the teen was ever pregnant.
The Springfield News-Leader reported several friends and relatives received a text message indicating the girl may have given birth to a child that was not alive.
