Police: Suspect asks for cigarette, shoots man in northwest St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man during a robbery in northwest St. Louis Sunday afternoon.

Police said a man, 20, was standing near the intersection of Union and Lotus around 1 p.m. when a male suspect approached and asked him for a cigarette.

According to police, the victim said he did not have one. That's when the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded property.

Police said the victim refused and the suspect shot him in the hand.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. He was expected to be OK.

The suspect was described as a black man in his mid 30s with a low hair cut, medium complexion. He was wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans at the time of the shooting.
