ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Two people were arrested when officers on a call noticed strong chemical odors coming from a nearby garage.

Police said around 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, officers were in the 5400 block of Magnolia on an arrest attempt when they noticed a strong chemical smell coming from inside a garage.  Officers immediately removed themselves and two suspects from the area.

Police notified the fire department and a Hazardous Materials Unit responded.  The unit entered the garage and was able to declare the scene environmentally safe.  Narcotics detectives investigated the scene and found evidence of a prior meth lab, however, did not observe any active materials.

A 50-year old man and a 46-year old woman were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.  Police did not say if the warrants were drug related.
