EAST ST LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- The federal trial of a man accused of attempting to bomb the federal courthouse in Springfield will be held in southern Illinois instead of in the building the man allegedly sought to destroy.
U.S. District Judge David Herndon has signed off on a defense request to move 30-year-old Michael Finton's trial from Springfield to East St. Louis.
Finton was arrested by federal investigators last year. He is accused of trying to blow up the courthouse with a van he thought was packed with explosives.
Finton is a former fry cook who converted to Islam while serving a prison sentence. He also goes by the name Talib Islam.
