Parents could pay truancy fines in Macoupin County school districts

(KMOV) – A new policy could end up costing parents big money when a child skips school in the Southwestern School District, in Macoupin County.

The ordinance allows truancy officers to stop students and ticket them and applies to all Macoupin County public school students, ages seven to 17.

Parents of children who miss more than 18 days of school will have to pay a $100 fine.

Money collected from truancy fines will go into a county fund, which assists with the cost of maintaining truancy officers.
