(KMOV) -- Police are searching for a driver and several passengers, who hit a mother and her two children, around 5:30 p.m., Monday, while trying to cross N. Kingshighway, near Raymond, in north St. Louis.
The mother is being treated at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and is in stable condition. Her two girls, a three-year-old and a one-and-a-half-year-old, are in serious, but stable condition at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

A number of cars stopped to let the woman and the toddlers cross, while one motorist became impatient and drove around the stop vehicles, hitting the mother and her children.

The suspect, along with two or three passengers, sped off, followed by a witness who did not want them to escape.

The driver of the vehicle stopped several blocks away, in the 5600 block of Vernon, where the driver and passengers fled on foot.

With verification from other witnesses, police were able to find the vehicle almost immediately. Police say the car is registered to a St. Charles address.

Police have pulled evidence from the car, which could lead them to the suspect.
