(KMOV) -- Five boys are accused of ganging up on a girl and forcing her into a sex act in a bathroom at Lincoln Middle School in East St. Louis after school on Monday.
The victim is not the first girl the suspects targeted, sources say.
Investigators say she kicked and scratched and the boys let her go. Police say the boys then pulled another female student in the bathroom and forced her to perform a sexual act on one of the boys. The second victim is a 12-year-old girl.
This all happened Monday evening around 5:30 p.m., police say. And while it’s still early in the investigation, detectives say all of the suspects have been removed from the school.
Police say the middle school does have a community resource officer, but that officer does not work after school hours.
After the investigation is complete, police say they will turn the case over to the state’s attorney’s office.
Sources say the school district is working with the victim.
News 4 tried to reach the district Thursday afternoon, but was told that the superintendent may be on vacation in China.
The group, YWCA, St. Louis based sexual assault center, says parents, teachers and students need to be more vigilant and students will have to speak out to stop the attacks.
The YWCA offers free, confidential assistance to anyone who is the victim of sexual assault.
