(KMOV) – The second man who escaped from Lincoln County Jail earlier this week was captured just before 1 p.m. Thursday without incident in south St. Louis, officials say.
The U.S. Marshals Service and officials with the FBI and the St. Louis police’s Violent Offenders Unit arrested Corey Cross in the 3200 block of Chippewa, just east of Grand.
Cross was tracked down to an apartment on Chippewa, and witnesses on the block say the capture happened very quickly with several unmarked vehicles pulling up on the street and authorities swarming to the building and banging on the door.
The U.S. Marshals Service say they found Cross sitting in a back room.
Cross was being held on federal weapons and drug charges at the time of his escape.
The other escapee, John Wesley Jones, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Swansea, Illinois.
In a press release, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says it is “currently correcting a design flaw and implementing additional security features to ensure an incident like this will not happen again.”
The office says they cannot give specific details of the escape.
