(KMOV) – Commuters across the St. Louis area experienced major delays on Metrolink Tuesday morning.
The problems began during the Tuesday morning commute.
A passenger tells News 4 that Metrolink riders were told that over the train's intercom system that the outages were caused by an electrical fire at the 5th and Missouri station on the Illinois side.
Metro posted a message on its website saying the delays were caused by mechanical failures and catenary wire problems at the Civic Center. They have yet to comment about the electrical fire.
Commuters on both sides of the river were forced to exit their trains and board buses to get to their destinations.
Metro stated on its website that riders should expect to experience delays of 20-30 minutes. Passengers told News 4 that they were experiencing delays of up to an hour.
