POTOSI, Mo. (KMOV) – The chief of the Potosi Fire Department remained in serious condition Tuesday morning, a day after being seriously injured when the tanker truck he was driving overturned while responding to a fire.
Potosi Fire Chief, Richard Knight, 51, was en route to a report of a rekindled fire at 4:15 p.m. when he lost control of his truck lost along Route 47 at Toby Meadows Lane.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Knight attempted to gain control as his tanker truck veered off the roadway, causing the truck to flip. Knight was partially ejected.
Knight was rushed to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis where he remained in serious condition Tuesday morning.
It is not clear if the icy conditions played a role in the wreck. Troopers say the shifting weight of water inside the tanker may have been a contributing factor.
