(KMOV) – Crews across the metro are working day and night to clean up the streets for morning commuters.
According to Illinois Department of Transportation, crews will begin to focus on the more rural areas as the streets in the metro area are considerable clear as of Monday evening.
IDOT officials are hoping the strong winds predicted for the evening hours will die down enough for crews to clear the majority of the roadways for the morning commute.
IDOT officials say the heavy snow has caused an issue with the weight on overhanging branches. Semi trucks have started to clip the branch as they pass. This, officials say, is causing more of a problem than the actual snow.
Drivers are also experiences slowdowns as more people are running into the snowplows. Officials are asking drivers to give the snowplows plenty of space to work for their safety and that of the driver. It also helps keep all snowplows
Illinois Department of Transportation officials believe the roads are cleared but are not in perfect shape, cautioning drivers to still travel defensively as the snow melts.
