Hundreds of local employees let go after research institute shuts down

( -- Hundreds of employees are out of work after a Fargo-based company reportedly declared bankruptcy Wednesday. In St. Charles, the move left residents out of work and local participants of health studies high and dry.

Employees too distraught to talk on camera quickly packed up their belongings after being told they no longer had a job PRACS Institute.

Off camera, employees said emails were sent out letting them know their positions have been cut after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Participants, many of them in dire need of this extra cash, were also told to leave without getting their money.

One participant was reportedly told to leave in the middle of drug trials. When they refused, the police were called. They waited outside in the cold until News 4 arrived got there so they could talk on camera.

Reportedly, the participant was in a study for about a month and was supposed to receive $1,200 at the end of it for their participation.

With its main headquarters located in Fargo, North Dakota, both employees and participants are having a tough time getting any answers.

News 4 tried contacting officials with the PRACS institute, making several calls and sending multiple emails, but got no response.
