SLU has last practice before NCAA tourney

The Saint Louis University Billikens took to the court at HP Pavillion in San Jose on Wednesday, getting their last-minute preparations in before taking on New Mexico State Thursday afternoon.

But before they did, the team chatted with the media before heading to a 40-minute practice.

The practices are traditionally more of a chance to shoot around and stretch out than really get after it.

It was important for SLU to get acclimated with the rims, lights and floor that comes with playing in a big arena.

Fortunately, they come to San Jose after having played their last few games at another big arena in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

New Mexico State can be an imposing bunch in person. They’re the tallest team in the nation, featuring players listed at 7’5, 6’10, 6’10, 6’8 and 6’7. Their tallest player, 7’5 center Sim Bhullar, may be big, but mobile he is not, which the Billikens hope to take advantage of.

Traveling to the west coast shouldn’t hurt SLU, who has seen both coasts in the last week after being in Brooklyn for the A-10 tournament.

The team has slowly gained national attention this year, even more so after they were forced to make an emergency pit stop on Sunday when traffic made them watch the selection show at a New Jersey Best Buy.
