JUPITER, Fla. - Cardinals shortstop Rafael Furcal returned to camp Tuesday, about a week after undergoing Tommy John surgery in Pensacola, Fla.
Furcal, who will miss the entire 2013 season, talked and joked with players in the clubhouse.
“He’s walking energy,” said manager Mike Matheny. “He walks in and you hear the room explode with different things and he starts yelling things that we can’t even understand. He’s just life. We talked about this as a group the other day, there’s just some people around here that can’t hide how much they love showing up here.
“Rafi has always been one of those guys who loves what he does. You can’t have too many of those guys around.”
Asked if Furcal will remain around the team, Matheny said, “I hope so. That’s what I told him today. He’s always welcome. We look forward to seeing him.”
