Chris Carpenter arrives at Cards spring training for a visit

Chris Carpenter surprised many in Jupiter today when he strolled up to Roger Dean Stadium with his long, curly hair.  He was on his way back from Puerto Rico with his family when they decided to stop in at camp for a week to “see the guys."

The injured pitcher says there is nothing new with him medically as he’s still unable to throw due to a nerve condition that’s affected his right arm and shoulder.  Carpenter says his first priority is making sure he won’t have any issues for the rest of his life.

So Carpenter called up GM John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny to ask if it would be okay for him to come by for a few days.  They said it would absolutely be fine and even have not even bugged him about helping out while he’s in town.

“They understand how hard it is when you want to be out there and you want to pitch and you want to play but unfortunately you can’t,” Carpenter said.

The 37-year old seems resigned to the fact the end is here but reiterated the fact he’ll never say the word retire.  He’s always going to be a part of the game.

Carpenter also wants to be able to watch some games with his son, Sam.
