(BaseballStL) - Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has entered the social media universe.
Matheny has created a Twitter handle @MikeMatheny22 and a website, MikeMatheny.com, to help him with his focus on youth sports. According to the mission statement on his website, "Mike aspires to change the culture of youth sports to provide the greatest impact to kids, their character and their communities."
The second-year Cardinals manager has been blogging multiple times a week about Spring Training and plans to upload videos throughout the season from managers Joe Girardi, Jim Leyland and others focusing on youth sports.
"There's a lot of people that believe in that concept so now what?" Matheny said of his reason for the website. "Just trying to give them some things to challenge them and the target market is coaches, parents and kids, for trying to change the concept of youth sports or the culture of youth sports, or give them another option."
Matheny started the day with 120 followers on Twitter but surpassed 1,000 barely 20 minutes after media members and the Cardinals official Twitter account began promoting his new account.
