JUPITER, FLa. - Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has said all along that Daniel Descalso could see time at shortstop with Matt Carpenter looking impressive at second base. That time comes Monday.

Descalso will get his first start of the spring at shortstop when the Cardinals host the New York Mets at 1:05 pm ET at Roger Dean Stadium.

With Carpenter able to hold his own at second base, the Cardinals have the nice luxury of being able to mix and match Descalso and Pete Kozma at shortstop if they wanted to.

David Freese remains out of the lineup due to lower back pain.

Jake Westbrook gets his fourth start of the spring on the mound.

The full Cardinals lineup:

Jon Jay, CF
Matt Carpenter, 2B
Matt Holliday, DH
Matt Adams, 1B
Oscar Taveras, RF
Daniel Descalso, SS
Tony Cruz, C
Adron Chambers, LF
Ronny Cedeno, 3B
-
Jake Westbrook, P
