(KMOV.com) -- Several dozen students gathered outside Ladue High School Monday morning to show support for five teachers and two staff members who learned they would soon be laid off.
The layoffs are part of a budget cutting plan. By law, teachers have to be notified before the end of the school year if their contracts will not be renewed. The students are upset about the layoffs, but they are more upset about how the teachers and staff members were notified.
The teachers were pulled out of class in the middle of the day to hear the bad news.
Students responded to the news by printing up t-shirts to show their support. Some students created a Facebook page to let other students speak out, initially about the way the teachers were told, but ultimately to show support for all in the district.
