MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KMOV) -- The City of Maplewood says it will install surveillance cameras throughout the town to help stop crime.

This will be the first area to install this type of device, and the project will cost $125,000.
Maplewood police say they plan to station the cameras in popular spots throughout the city that attract crime, such as the City Park and several business districts.
Cameras will also be installed along Manchester Road.
Residents will not have to pay for the cameras. The city is funding the project through the money convicted criminals pay at sentencing.
Police say the cameras will run on a wireless connection, allowing officers to watch real time video from their office, patrol car or smart phone.
