(KMOV)-- Hundreds of manufacturing jobs are coming to Granite City. Amsted Rail Company is hiring again, 2 years after laying off 70% of it's workforce.
This plant primarily is involved in making equipment for the freight rail industry. Many of those coming back were among those who were laid off.
It's estimated that about 700 jobs are coming back to this facility, positions like machinists and welders.
More people back to work means an immediate impact on this area. This is just the shot in the arm local economic officials have been looking for, especially when you consider that last year, us steel in granite city brought back some 1800 jobs. They certainly hope the dark days of the recession are behind them now.
