(KMOV)-- Authorities are investigating an incident in East Alton, Illinois where two men harassed children after following their school bus on Friday.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a parent reporting that around 3:45 p.m., a 5-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were harassed when walking from their bus stop.
Authorities say it was reported that a vehicle started following the school bus near the Wal-Mart Store in Wood River, Illinois.
The school bus made the normal stops and eventually traveled to the 400 block of Spruce Street in Rosewood Heights. The two children were let off the bus and it was reported that the vehicle traveled down Spruce Street and turned around.
The car approached the children and the driver said “Hi.” The children told the two males that they did not know them and asked why they were following their bus.
The male passenger said, “because I’m a rapist.” The children reported the two males started laughing, gave each other a “high five,” and drove off towards Airline Drive.
The suspects have been described as by two male subjects possibly between 16 and 18 years of age, with darker hair in a light silver, or champagne colored vehicle, with the first three letters on the license plate possibly being “SKE.”
Detectives with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office have been in contact with the Roxana School District about the incident and are currently reviewing surveillance systems in these areas and the camera system on the school bus.
If anyone has information on this incident is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency or contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
