Jupiter, Florida (KMOV,com) -- KMOV.com's Brian Feldman is in Jupiter, Florida covering the Cardinals and is posting regular updates from spring training. It is Sunday and the Cards squaring off against Florida.
Mar. 8, 2:30 p.m. -Talked with Garcia. Obviously not happy with his performance. Says he might have been rushing, overthrowing and just had an overall lack of command. Will make adjustments and move on.
Mar. 8, 2:17 p.m. -Brandon Dickson getting kicked around a little bit in the 6th. A couple hits (hard hits) leads to a run so far. He's got NO room for error in this 5th starter competition that's in all likelihood going to go to Kyle McClellan.
Mar. 8, 1:21 p.m. -Eduardo Sanchez takes the ball in the 4th. Garcia goes 3 innings...allows 3 runs on 7 hits.
Mar. 8, 1:14 p.m. -A third run allowed by Garcia before getting out of the jam with a strikeout. I'd imagine Garcia is done...considering the bullpen is active.
Mar. 8, 1:10 p.m. -Matt Carpenter putting on a show. 3 nice defensive plays. 2 this inning including a sweet over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory.
Mar. 8, 1:05 p.m. - Rasmus strikes out. In similar news...the sun rose this morning.
Mar. 8, 1:00 p.m. - Matt Carpenter rips a single and then goes 1st to 3rd on a Theriot blooper hit. The man makes an impression folks. Prediction: If Freese goes down again in '11 (knock on wood) he is your starting third baseman.
Mar. 8, 12:47 p.m. - RBI double by Ellsbury followed by RBI single by McDonald ties things up at 2. Jaime less-than-stellar today. Brandon Dickson might be on standby.
Mar. 8, 12:44 p.m. - 2 more on base vs Garcia in the 2nd. 3 walks total. That gets a visit from Duncan. Not the best day for Jaime so far.
Mar. 8, 12:34 p.m. - Holliday follows up with an RBI of his own. Good to see them tee off on mediocre pitching. Would be quite concerning if they got shut down. 2-0 Redbirds...
Mar. 8, 12: 30 p.m. - Albert crushes one down the 3rd base line...foul. So what does he do? Crushes another down the 3rd base line...fair. Theriot scores. 1-0 Cards. Very hard hit.
Mar. 8, 12: 29 p.m. - Rasmus swings over big curveball for strikeout. Again...it is vital he cut down on those. It'll lead to more consistency.
Mar. 8, 12:22 p.m. - I just noticed the Red Sox have sent 7 pitchers to Jupiter for this game. I have heard of, precisely, zero of them. Cards have "A" lineup in minus Freese. No excuses here.
Mar. 8, 12:20 p.m. - Garcia loads the bases in the top of the 1st. 2 walks and a hit allowed. But gets out of the jam by getting Lars Anderson to ground into FC 1-2.
Mar. 8, 12:11 p.m. - David Ortiz gets a huge ovation from the crowd. Its standing room only today. No room for any more people. This is the most popular game of the year here at Roger Dean.
Mar. 8, 9:31 a.m. - He's not sure how many pitches he threw either. Again even if he does miss Friday's start (which is up in the air) he could still get 3 Spring Training starts...which, to him, is enough to feel ready with everything for March 31st.
Mar. 8, 9:29 a.m. - Carpenter says he felt no pain at all in his session. Was a little hesitant at first but opened it up in full after a bit. Felt very good. Will reevaluate tomorrow based on how he feels then and will make a determination on Friday's start. No matter what he is very confident he'll be ready for Opening Day.
Mar. 8, 9:19 a.m. - I haven't been counting...but Carpenter has been throwing for a while now consecutively. You'd think if the hamstring was really bad he wouldn't be able to do this. We'll hopefully find out later if he had any pain at all.
Mar. 8, 9:11 a.m. - And now he is on the mound. Looks like a full bullpen session.
Mar. 8, 9:08 am. - Right now...Carp's throwing on flat ground. We'll see if it progresses.
Mar. 8, 9:05 a.m. - Carpenter going to throw another side session in a few minutes according to Tony. See how it goes then make a determination for Friday. We'll see. Some confusion as to what he's going to actually do...play catch on flat ground, play catch on the mound or full bullpen.
Mar. 8, 8:42 a.m. - Matt Carpenter and Adron Chambers working on their WR/DB drills. Carpenter the receiver and Chambers the corner. Kinda funny to watch.
Mar. 8, 8:18 a.m. - In other news the Cards will hold a "B" game scrimmage on the back field at 11 AM eastern. Players such as Kozma and Cox will appear in that one.
Mar. 8, 8:16 a.m. - So in Fort Myers the Cards were fed pizza as their postgame meal (very common because its easy). I asked Jake Westbrook how many pieces he took down and he said not only did he have a few slices there...but his family ordered pizza for dinner. Safe to say he's pizza-ed out.
Mar. 8, 8:02 a.m. - John Kruk in the house along with everyone else from ESPN. Lance Berkman tells him "I'm running like seabiscut". Man he's funny.
Mar. 8, 8:01 a.m. - Garcia starts on the mound. Dickson, Salas, Samuel, Sanchez, Gast and Valdes available out of the bullpen.
