St. Louis City Police make 60 arrests this Mardi Gras 2011

(KMOV) - St. Louis City police officers made themselves obvious; walking in large groups and standing on crowded corners.
While their presence may have cut down on crime, it didn't stop it.
60 arrests total; 46 of them due to underage drinking. However, 1 arrest not made is the person responsible for snatching a woman's purse. That's why Kristen Fehl made sure her friends were nearby. She says, "if they were not there I always made sure it was by my side. We always kept it hidden under all our coats and there were 8 of us so we kept at least 8 coats on top of it so people wouldn't recognize it."Some were shocked to see just how many left their purses unzipped.
Party-goers we spoke with feel like there weren't enough officers on the streets. St. Louis City Police wont say exactly how many officers were out, but do say its the same number they had last year. People we spoke with say that wasn't enough.
Ed Starns says, "There wasn't a lot of police presence at all. Some people here and there at a corner but that's it." But Jerry Leyshock with St. Louis City Police says, "As the detail commander I've been making my rounds and we have good police presence and the officers are where we asked them to be so I'm a little surprised by that."
There ere no serious injuries from Mardi Gras 2011 and less arrests this year than last year,
