INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Karisma Penn scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Illinois to a 55-47 victory over Michigan on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten women
Amber Moore scored 14 points and Adrienne GodBold 10 for Illinois (9-22), which will play Penn State (23-8) in the first semifinal Saturday. The Nittany Lions advanced by eliminating Purdue 73-61.
Kate Thompson came off the bench to lead Michigan (17-12) with 10 points. Fellow sub Sam Arnold and starter Jenny Ryan added nine each.
Michigan put together a 17-2 run over a stretch of almost 6 minutes late in the second half, cutting Illinois
lead to 52-43 with 3:05 to play. The Wolverines trimmed it to 54-47 with 58.8 seconds left but drew no closer.
Illinois shot 40.4 percent (21 of 52). Michigan finished at 32.1 percent (18 of 56) after shooting 26.9 percent in the first half.
