(KMOV) – Work is getting underway to replace a bridge that partially collapsed four years ago.
On March 1, 2007, a 70-foot section of concrete fell from the Delor Overpass onto I-55 in south St. Louis. It narrowly missed a driver below.
No one was seriously injured.
At the time, the Missouri Department of Transportation blamed a salt buildup for eating away bridge supports. MoDOT made temporary repairs, but now, the bridge is coming down for good.
On March 14, MoDOT will close the Delor Bridge, and at 9 p.m. Friday March 18, MoDOT will close I-55 from Carondolet to the 4500 block of Broadway for the weekend to remove the bridge.
There will also be various lane closures on I-55 starting March 14.
