EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Investigators are renewing their request for the public's help in tracking down a man accused in an alleged robbery-related shooting death on the victim's East St. Louis front porch.
St. Clair County prosecutors charged 25-year-old Mortez Custer in December with first-degree murder, but Custer has eluded Illinois state and local police. A judge has set bond for the man, when he is captured, at $2 million.
Authorities contend Custer shot 39-year-old Roderick Thornton once in the head Dec. 3. Thornton managed to run down the street before collapsing and dying.
Police have said that a longtime friend of Thornton's knocked on his door in an attempt to rob him.
Investigators consider Custer armed and dangerous.
Custer doesn't have a listed home telephone number.
