The Cardinals are in Jupiter, Florida for spring training. Our own Brian Feldman is in the middle of all the action. Brian will provide constant updates, so check back through the day for the very latest news.

Mar. 2, 2:14 p.m. -Lynn admitted his breaking ball was really good. He also threw his sinker, four seamer and change up.

Mar. 2, 2:13 p.m. -Talked to Lance Lynn. Says "all you want is a chance" in reference to the 5th starter competition. Said he felt great today and hopes to build on this in the future.

Mar. 2, 1:56 p.m. -And, yes, Jake Westbrook is healthy. Fear not.

Mar. 2, 1:54 p.m. -Chatted with Westbrook. Wishes he could've been more economical with his pitches but knows it was the first start and will be better.

Mar. 2, 1:35 p.m. -3 shutout innings from Lynn. Impressive. Wonder if he'll start Sunday or if there's not enough off days to be ready. Either way...he's set the bar for Brandon Dickson and even Kyle McClellan.

Mar. 2, 1:24 p.m. -7 up...7 down for Lynn with another strikeout. Wow. He looks good.

Mar. 2, 1:14 p.m. -John Lujan replaces Dickey. Yadi greets him with a 2-out base hit to left. He thought about taking 2nd base. Then he remembered he's slow.

Mar. 2, 1:08 p.m. -Another impressive 1-2-3 for Lance Lynn. Will he get a 3rd inning to pitch? No one is warming up...

Mar. 2, 12:56 p.m. - Nevermind...an RBI double changes that equation.

Mar. 2, 12:56 p.m. - Jon Jay has got to be annoyed that he's gotta use 2 ABs on Dickey. I would be anyway...

Mar. 2, 12:53 p.m. - Ramon Vasquez breaks up Dickey's no-hitter with a double down the 3rd base line. Ball just fell in fair territory.

Mar. 2, 12:51 p.m. - 3 innings from R.A. Dickey = Not what TLR wanted to see.

Mar. 2, 12:48 p.m. - 1-2-3 for Lynn with 2 punch outs. Not a bad start. Great curveball got one guy and the heater got another. We'll see if it continues.

Mar. 2, 12:45 p.m. - And now there's a Sunday start open with Carpenter hurt. Could be Lynn's if he pitches well today...possibly...

Mar. 2, 12:43 p.m. - Lance Lynn in the game. Definitely a contender for Wainwright's spot in the rotation. This game (as every game will be) is huge for him. No margin for error in this competition.

Mar. 2, 12:42 p.m. - Man, Cards hit into some tough luck off Dickey in the 2nd. Hamilton and Craig both launch balls to the outfield. Problem was they were right at the RF and CF, respectively.

Mar. 2, 12:36 p.m. - Keep in mind, though, that a lot of times these pitchers go into games solely working on a couple things. They don't care a lot of times if the hitter crushes it. Just wanna work on their stuff. Remember...its just Spring Training.

Mar. 2, 12:34 p.m. - In other news...Westbrook getting hit fairly hard. 5 hits in 1.1 innings. 2 runs have scored.

Mar. 2, 12:33 p.m. - Rasmus boots a ball hit up the middle at him. Ugh. Not this again. He's too talented to be making these young mistakes.

Mar. 2, 12:31 p.m. - Westbrook kicks a ball right back at him which makes it just go over the head of Vasquez. Might have been an inning ending double play.

Mar. 2, 12:27 p.m. - Lance Lynn already getting up. Don't know if Westbrook was supposed to go 3 innings...but his pitch count has to be pretty high. Most likely done after 2. Definitely don't want another starter hurt.

Mar. 2, 12:23 p.m. - Oh wow. Very scary moment when Justin Turner crushed a ball foul right into the stands. Don't think anyone is hurt though.

Mar. 2, 12: 19 p.m. - The knuckleballer Ks Albert swinging. Wish we had a radar gun to see exactly how slow he's pitching. Can't be any faster than mid 70s. Heard its like hitting a whiffle ball.

Mar. 2, 12:17 p.m. - My very observant self of course takes a full half inning to realize Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Jose Reyes are not playing for the Mets today.

Mar. 2, 12:14 p.m. - Westbrook gets out of some trouble in the first. Had runners on 2nd and 3rd. How Nick Evans' ball did not leave the park is beyond me.That ball was crushed. Looks like (from flags) the wind might be blowing in though.

Mar. 2, 12:04 p.m. - Lou Brock gets the call to go out for ground rules today.

Mar. 2, 11:57 a.m. - Chris Carpenter IS in uniform and watching Jake Westbrook warm up.

Mar. 2, 11:54 a.m. - As always during Cardinals home games...the weather announcement
comes. "In St. Louis it's 36 degrees. Here in Jupiter...73 degrees!"

Mar. 2, 11:06 a.m. - Hamilton is a 1st baseman...a position that doesn't have much of a future here because of #5. So if he was that good of a hitter they'd have tried to move him to the OF by now. You'd think.

Mar. 2, 11:04 a.m. - Interesting to see Mark Hamilton hitting clean up today. Got a nice swing and has performed well...but never got the impression he's that highly regarded as a prospect.

Mar. 2, 10:59 a.m. - Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey throwing today for the Mets. Always humorous to watch hitters against guys like him. Some crush them...others arjust completely clueless.

Mar. 2, 9:08 a.m. - Yes...that'd mean Freese would go to Fort Myers. As Tony says "young guys make trips".

Mar. 2, 9:06 a.m. - Pushing Freese back to Monday for precautionary reasons. Tony says "no regrets"..they want to be careful. Really believes he'll be cleared for Monday.

Mar. 2, 9:06 a.m. - Too early to say if injury to Boggs affects McClellan. Easy to thinkit could because there might be more or a need in the bullpen...but still too early.

Mar. 2, 9:01 a.m. - Dickson gets start Thursday at home because they really want to see him. Could be for #5 job now, potential call-up during the year or for his future in general. Tony says he's been impressive so far and they want to see him in a game.

Mar. 2, 8:58 a.m. - Talking about Wainwright...Tony compares the situation to the Twins losing Joe Nathan last year for the season. They still won the division.

Mar. 2, 8:56 a.m. - Boggs has something going on in his lower back but it shouldn't be along term deal. They'll continue to monitor it. Hopefully it'll just be a few days.

Mar. 2., 8:53 a.m. - Conceivably...Carp could miss 2 starts and be okay. But the plan, for now, is just needing to miss Sunday

Mar. 2., 8:51 a.m. - Tony notes: Carp will miss a start (Sunday) for now. Did not come in
worse so, for him, that's a good sign. Still not concerned. Won't set him back.

Mar. 2, 7:59 a.m. - Trever Miller, Lance Lynn, Scott McGregor and Jason Motte listed to also pitch today...

Mar. 2, 7:56 a.m. - Overheard Carpenter say he woke up feeling better today and thinks that is encouraging. Will still be cautious with it.

Mar. 2, 7:54 a.m. - Jay 7...Rasmus 8...Pujols 3...Hamilton DH...Craig 5...Molina 2...Stavinoha 9...Vasquez 4...Greene 6.  Westbrook is pitching.
