ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV) -- A central traffic control system designed to help reduce the amount of time drivers spend waiting at stop lights will soon be installed throughout St. Charles County.

County administrators are currently developing a coordinated traffic system that would synchronize all 334 stop lights throughout St. Charles, St. Peters and O’Fallon.

The project will cost around $5 million, and is expected to be completed at the end of 2012.

St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann says the technology is worth trying and that it would help resolve traffic issues throughout the city and on I-70.
