(KMOV) – An elderly man was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street Monday evening.

John F. Hines, 70, was struck around 6:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Godfrey in Godfrey, Illinois.

He was reportedly staying in the Motor Inn after a fire recently displaced him from his home on February 18th. Hines was crossing the street from his motel to get something to eat when he was hit. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Hines did stop and cooperated with the investigation. No charges will be filed. Police say the driver is a juvenile.

Officials say the stretch of Godfrey Road where the man was killed is especially busy because of the Motor Inn on one side of the road, and restaurants on the other.
