The Cardinals are in Jupiter, Florida for spring training. Our own Brian Feldman is in the middle of all the action. Brian will provide constant updates, so check back through the day for the very latest news.

Feb. 28, 1:20 p.m. -Yep. Samuel overthrows Hamilton on pick-off attempt. That's the
Francisco Samuel I know. Pretzel guy then says "Someone needs a pretzel"...

Feb. 28, 1:16 p.m. -Pujols done. Mark Hamilton at 1st. Holliday went out last inning as
well for Adron Chambers.

Feb. 28, 1:10 p.m. -Francisco Samuel coming in to pitch. This should be interesting.

Feb. 28, 1:10 p.m. -What does Berkman do for an encore? Base hit. Then he gets taken out.
2-2 day on his debut.

Feb. 28, 1:06 p.m. -Craig fields a grounder cleanly and has an accurate throw from 3rd. To me he's not very smooth over there. Can tell he's inexperienced at that spot.

Feb. 28, 12:54 p.m. - Matt Holliday makes a diving catch in short left. The crowd loves it. The team, I would imagine, would prefer he didn't put his body at risk in February.

Feb. 28, 12:52 p.m. - Ryan Theriot pulls an olé on a rocket right at him. Cue the Brendan Ryan talk.

Feb. 28, 12:42 p.m. - Gerald Laird extends inning to Matt Carpenter with double to left. Really intrigued by Carpenter...could be a weapon in the future. Of course he grounds out weakly to 2nd.

Feb. 28, 12:38 p.m. - Lance Berkman goes yard in his first AB of the year. That prompts the pretzel guy to shout "He hit a HR because he bought a pretzel!". Guess I'll have one.

Feb. 28, 12:35 p.m. - Brian Augestein warming up in the 'pen. Most likely to pitch the 3rd. 4-0 Marlins so far going into bottom of the 2nd.

Feb. 28, 12:32 p.m. - First game fly ball to Lance Berkman. Success.

Feb. 28, 12:29 p.m. - Raul Valdes certainly not missing very many bats.

Feb. 28, 12:28 p.m. - First web gem of the year. Hanley Ramirez robs Holliday...who blasted one right on the nose...only to have Hanley sky a couple feet in the air and snag it. That drew quite a response from the crowd.

Feb. 28, 12:17 p.m. - 2-RBI double for Gaby Sanchez down, guess where, the 3rd base line. Hey...they say the ball always finds either the struggling or (in this case) new player in the field.

Feb. 28, 12:13 p.m. - Great job by Craig to knock down a ball hit by Hanley Ramirez while falling to his right. Couldn't make the throw though. That's the big issue with him there...throwing...not fielding.

Feb. 28, 12:10 p.m. - First AB of '11 is a base hit down the 3rd base line for Omar Infante off Valdes. I'm happy to report Allen Craig didn't have a chance.

Feb. 28, 12:07 p.m. - Tony said earlier Valdes's limit would be 2 innings. We'll see how that holds up.

Feb. 28, 12:04 p.m. - Shane Robinson and Colby Rasmus working on their "post Rasmus HR" celebration. Kids...

Feb. 28, 12:00 p.m. - Moment of silence for Andrew Baur.

Feb. 28, 11:59 a.m. - One of my favorite parts of Spring Training is how the PA announcer says the temperature in St. Louis and then the temperature here in Jupiter so fans can understand how lucky they are to be here. STL? 36. Jupiter? 82. Ha!

Feb. 28, 11:51 a.m. - Zack Cox warms up with Matt Carpenter. Interesting duo. Carpenter is the AAA 3rd baseman with Cox eventually (you'd imagine) being the AA 3rd baseman this season. The success of one easily could effect the other in the long run.

Feb. 28, 11:33 a.m. - Anibal Sanchez is pitching for Florida today. Really good young pitcher who has a high ceiling. Though, again, it could be a rough day for pitchers. Usually working on certain things without any regard for the hitters. Hard to tell what the plan is until after the fact.

Feb. 28, 11:05 a.m. - Marlins taking pregame batting practice now with the Cards up next. One hour til game time. Remember...Tony said it wouldn't be smart to expect World Series caliber baseball. There will be mistakes. Takes time in Spring Training to get ready for the regular season.
