(KMOV) -- A pressure-cooker situation inside the Bridgeton Police Department Friday morning ended in relief after about an hour or so. A two-year-old girl who was taken from the Providence Center, a homeless shelter, is back safe with her mother.
Police Chief Don Hood tells us the child's father took her between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. She was recovered around 10:00 a.m.
Police were able to contact the girl's father by phone and he agreed to give her back to police.
At this point Chief Hood says it's unclear if a crime was committed. They are interviewing the father and will keep us posted on any possible charges.
Chief Hood, in his first month on the job as Bridgeton Police Chief, says they were in the process of issuing a S.A.R.A.A. Alert when they ended up recovering the child unharmed.
